How can we help?
Most answers are below. If yours isn't, email us and a real person will get back to you, usually within two days.
How does Play Along split a song?
When you upload audio for a song, it's sent to our server, where an AI model separates it into four stems: vocals, drums, bass, and other (guitar, piano, and everything else). It usually takes a minute or two. You can keep logging practice for the song while it's working.
Can I split songs from Apple Music?
No. Apple Music tracks are copy-protected, so the app can only read their titles and artists. To split a song, upload an audio file you own, like a purchased download or your own recording.
What do I get for free?
Everything except stems: Practice Mode, takes, songs, progress charts, streaks, the Weekly Goal, and the metronome. You also get 3 free song separations to try Play Along. The Stems subscription unlocks up to 30 separations a month.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Music Practice Journal. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.
I got a new phone. How do I restore my subscription?
Sign in with the same Apple ID, open the app, go to the subscription screen, and tap Restore Purchases.
Is my practice history backed up?
Your journal is saved only on your iPhone, with no account. If you delete the app, your sessions, songs, and takes are deleted with it. An iCloud or computer backup of your iPhone includes the app's data, so restoring that backup brings it back.
The metronome or a take has no sound.
Check that your iPhone's ring/silent switch isn't on silent and the volume is up. For takes, make sure the app has microphone access in Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Music Practice Journal is iPhone-only for now.
